Having spent a great and enjoyable amount of time surfing the web this past summer, I have found so many outstanding ideas from which to borrow! One just such idea is that of a daily log of what is happening in our classroom. My sincere thanks to Ms. Jensen from whom I borrowed this and many other wonderful concepts!!

Each day a student will act as our journalist, taking notes on our activities, and then recording his/her reflections of the day. Be sure to check back often to see what this year's Warner fifth graders are up to!!

   Instructions for CLASSROOM LOG Journalists

  1. Keep notes throughout the day, jotting down some main ideas about each thing we do. You may also borrow my digital camera to take a picture or two to go with your article.

  2. Then at home, use these notes and the Journal Folder to help you write a short article.

  3. In your reporting, be honest and objective, and please take special care not to embarrass or hurt someone's feelings.

  4. Use the Writer's Tips sheet and the Journalist Rubric located in the Journal Folder to make sure that you have included everything needed in your article.

  5. Please proofread your work and have an adult go over it with you. Because your article will be published on our website, you will want to be sure that your article reflects your very best effort.

  6. Your article will need to be typed and saved to a floppy disk, a CD, a USB flash drive, or if done at school, saved to the NEWS AND VIEWS folder on the Students on the Monarch drive.  It can also be attached and e-mailed to me at jody.erickson@k12.sd.us.

  7. Your article is due by 3:20 of the day following your assigned reporting day.

  8. Have fun, and happy reporting!!
