DUTY

Warner fifth graders are entrusted with the care of the school's American flag.  It is a great honor and is a duty that each fifth grader is totally committed to.  The flag is put out each morning at 8:30 and is retired at the end of the school day at 3:20.  Each fifth grader learns how to properly care for the flag and how to properly fold it.  Each year's class puts their whole heart into seeing to it that our flag is treated with the utmost respect and reverence.  Thank you fifth graders for the outstanding care and respect you give to this cherished symbol of America's freedoms.

Each May during the end of the year Awards Ceremony, the fifth graders are presented with a certificate and a flag lapel pin in recognition of their dedicated and proud service to the flag.  The certificate and flag pin are awarded by Warner's American Legion Auxiliary.

Each spring, the Auxiliary also sponsors an Americanism poetry contest and an Americanism essay contest for our third-eighth graders. Our deepest appreciation to these ladies for their commitment to fostering citizenship in our youth.

America

My country how I love thee
Land of the noble and the free
How my heart bounds within me
When thy true flag I see.

My heart does in rapture swell
At thought of the brave who fell
      In woodland, field and dell
      Fighting for thee.

      Long may my country stand
      The eagle's chosen land
      Guarded by freedom's band
      Spotless and pure.

      Laura Ingalls Wilder
