Accelerated Math is a computer-based product of the Renaissance Learning Company. Individualized lessons are generated for each student. Students are assigned two objectives per lesson. After working the lesson, each student fills in dots on an answer card which is then scanned and corrected by computer. The students progress through practice lessons, test, and review lessons. As each objective is mastered, another goal is assigned. It is a wonderful tool for reinforcement of the skills learned from our basal math textbook. ACM is done every morning for twenty minutes. Students take their ACM folder and work individually on their lessons. Grades for ACM are based on total objectives mastered in a 9 week period, and the average percentages in the following areas: practice, tests, review. These grades count one-fifth (20%) of the total math grade for each grading period. Students who fall behind in meeting their objectives goal for the week will need to stay after school for Study Club, not as a punishment, but rather as a way to help students successfully meet their goal requirements. Practice and review lessons can be taken home to be worked on, and then scanned the next day in class. However, tests need to be worked on during school hours. If a student utilizes his ACM work time and if he takes home his practice lessons when he needs to, he should not have a problem meeting the objective goals for the week. Modifications are made for shortened weeks or when special activities cut into our ACM time.

WORKING HARD YOU CAN ACHIEVE GREAT THINGS!!

Students who master all the 5th grade level objectives earn a spot on the ACM Wall of Fame! Because we do ACM only 20 minutes per day as a supplement to our regular textbook math and because there are 182 objectives, it is extremely hard to complete and master all the 5th grade level objectives. Congratulations to all who are honored here for this outstanding achievement!! |
